Born in Montreal. He attended Le Petit Seminaire de Quebec (now Le College Francois de Laval). He studied medicine at Universite Laval.
1972: He joined the Canadian Forces during medical school.
1977: He became a Flight Surgeon. He studied Tropical Medicine at Walter Reed in 1978.
2007: He returned to CF service at the US Role 4 hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. The hospital treated Iraq and Afghanistan casualties. His six-month mission lasted almost a year. He received the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation.
2009: He was the last Canadian Officer to command the NATO Role 3 facility in Kandahar, Afghanistan (April to October). The hospital became the busiest trauma centre in the world. He received the Meritorious Service Medal from Governor General David Johnston in 2011.

He is President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch HMCS Coaticook, Quebec #026. He is a founding member of Medical Intelligence CBRNE Inc. and of Operation Compagnons d'Armes.
He has been married to Christine for 49 years. They have two adult sons and two grandchildren. He lives in Coaticook, Quebec. He is fluent in English and French, with conversational German, Spanish, Russian, and Italian.
